BITUMEN INSULATION

Why bitumen insulation? Bitumen (from Latin Bitumen “earth resin” ) is one of the oldest building materials known to man. It is a mixture of different organic substances that occurs naturally and is obtained from oil by vacuum distillation. It was used in Mesoponamia more than 5,000 years ago and was also used especially in construction. However, until the last few decades, very little was known about the composition of bitumen. Only modern analytical chemistry has provided reliable knowledge of bitumen chemistry with the help of chromatographic separation and molecular spectroscopy.

The properties of bitumen materials allow for many many uses, especially in construction for water protection. Bituminous coatings or various bituminous materials such as bituminous roofing strips are used as roof waterproofing.

By applying a suitable bituminous foil, either by welding on cold or self-adhesive bituminous foil (without open flame), the roof can be permanently insulated.

Protection against external influences, such as:

• rain (standing water)
• icy rain
• snow
• UV radiation
• extreme temperature oscillations
• dirt and harmful root penetration
